The "Extra Point" in American Football

A few years ago, I lamented the lack of drop kicks in American football.  Today, with the NFL considering proposals to make the PAT (point-after touchdown, aka "extra point") more difficult, it surprises me that nobody is suggesting the obvious fix:

Instead of a place kick, require a drop kick!

The New England Patriots want the extra point eliminated or placed at the 15-yard line (instead of the current 2-yard line).  No!  This eliminates fake extra points (not that those happen all that often, if ever).  Just require a drop kick!

And... that's pretty much all I have to say about that.

State of Mind

Wake up.  Dance your way to the park.  Drink wine for breakfast.  Hug your dog.  Ignore that superficial bitch who thinks she used to be famous.  Love that you live in a city where the world will come to you.  Then go see the world.

Fearless Prediction: San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers

At the risk of being dead wrong: the San Diego Chargers don't want to move to Los Angeles.  They don't even really care if another team moves to Los Angeles.  What they do care about is two teams moving to Los Angeles, which explains all of this Carson stadium hub-bub.

Basically, if one team moves to LA... no harm, no foul.  The Chargers can survive such a market and probably keep a lot of their Orange County support.

If two teams move to LA, however, the Chargers lose a ton of upside.  So, in that case, the Chargers will insist on being the second team.

But, if they can get a promise from the NFL that Los Angeles will be a one-team city (as it should be), then the San Diego ownership will calm down a bit.

Anyway, that's that.  We'll see if I'm right.

I just got invited to speak at a paratrooper function at Fort Bragg this May.

This ought to be interesting.
